SPECIAL
ANNOUNCEMENT
An
Invitation to
Join
Winnipeg
South Lions
in our
2nd
Annual International
Day of Fasting
in
Support of
CAMPAIGN SIGHTFIRST II
Saturday, June 7, 2008
"We
ask all
Lions Club Members to fast on this day and donate the
money saved on
food ($5.00) towards our campaign."
Facts &
Information
Melvin Jones, of Chicago,
Illinois,
on June
7, 1917, held the
first organizational meeting of the Lions Club.
On October 8-10, 1917,
in Dallas, Texas,
a Convention was held and the constitution, by-laws, objects and code
of ethics
was approved.
The Lions Club International consists of
approx. 1.3 to 1.4
million members and if each member donated
$5.00,
we would have $7,000,000.00 towards
our campaign.
If each member was to ask their
spouse or partner to join
them,
we could raise $14,000,000.00.
If each
member got a friend to join the fast, we would have
$21,000,000.00.
If each
member were to get nine (9) additional people to
join
our fast on June
7, 2008,
and each donated $5.00,
we would raise $70,000,000.00.
We
are making this an annual event
in honor of
Melvin Jones and the first group of members of the Lions Club
International in
aid of our fight against blindness throughout the world.
Please forward all funds collected
directly to
Sight First II
and notify our
Club President of the amount your group collected as a result of your
fast.
